What is a Sailing Holiday?

Imagine waking up in the morning, walking up three steps to the cockpit and then looking around yourself: the blue water in the bay, the smell of the Mediterranean vegetation, the gulls bidding you a good morning, the breeze blowing through your hair: Where are you? On a Sailing holiday, of course!

On a sailing holiday you will visit places that can only be reached by boat; you will discover the pleasures of navigating the sea with the wind blowing you along; you will discover new cultures, superb cuisine and beautiful landscapes. At the same time you will divide moments of fun and joy with friends that you didn't even know a few days earlier.

A sailboat isn't just a hull, a sail on a mast, a warm wooden interior or a group of sophisticated instruments to render your voyage safer; it is a new lifestyle! The moment we set foot on the boat, we become part of the crew, we divide the tasks and the pleasures of living together.

Then there's our boat: ours for a week or two or, perhaps, just for the weekend. She sits there, bobbing away at her berth, winking at us almost as if to say "Come on, let's go and find the next beautiful bay, the next pretty town and perhaps play with the dolphins along the way".

How do the days pass on a sailing holiday?

On a sailing holiday, every moment brings its own pleasures. On a typical day, you will sail for around 2 or 3 hours. While sailing along you can help the skipper with the sailing manoeuvres or you can simply watch the world go by with the wind blowing through your hair. When you reach the next bay, you can take a swim and explore the seabed, sunbath, read a book or play with the kids in the shade of the bimini (the big sun shade over the main cockpit).

When in port, the Skipper, with his local knowledge, will take you to visit the more interesting sites, to do a little shopping in the local shops or take you to the best restaurants to pass a memorable evening.

While berthed in a marina, you will make friends with the crews on the boats next to you; it may just be a polite "good morning" or they could become friends for life! On a boat, all your feelings seem to be magnified.

One thing is for sure; when you've been on a sailing holiday you are bitten by the bug! Do a simple test: the next time you go to a beach, rent your umbrella, sunlounger, your beach towel a good book and perhaps a cold drink. Look out to sea: the seascape remains the same. If you then start to feel too hot, maybe the sand starts sticking to you everywhere: if you are disturbed by the proximity of the people next to you; if you start getting board sunbathing for hours on end; if you look out to sea at the boats in the distance and think to yourself "what am I doing here?", you know you've been bitten by the bug!
